Groupe de lecture “L’abolition des privilèges” de Bertrand Guillot

Once a month, the reading group meets up to discuss a couple of books selected in advance (from classical to contemporary French literature) and discovers other members’ views on them. Meetings are taking place at the Institut français d’Écosse, usually on the last Tuesday of the month.

About the book :

It is a state in chronic deficit, where the richest escape taxes. A diet running out of steam. A people at the end of their tether, who demand justice and see nothing coming. A rich but blocked country, prey to the vagaries of a disordered climate. Such was France in the summer of 1789. Until in one night, at Versailles, everything changed. It’s the Night of August 4th.
