Groupe de lecture “La Conquête de Plassans” de Émile Zola

Once a month, the reading group meets up to discuss a couple of books selected in advance (from classical to contemporary French literature) and discovers other members’ views on them. Meetings are taking place at the Institut français d’Écosse, usually on the last Tuesday of the month.

About the book :

La Conquête de Plassans (1874) is the fourth novel in Émile Zola’s twenty-volume series Les Rougon-Macquart. In many ways a sequel to the first novel in the cycle, La Fortune des Rougon (1871), this novel is centered on the fictional Provençal town of Plassans and its plot revolves around a sinister cleric’s attempt at political intrigue with disastrous consequences for some of the townsfolk.
