CHAIR’S CHOICE
Introduced by French Film Festival Chair Debora Kayembe in conversation with Director Fiona Lloyd-Davies in person
Filmed over three years, director Fiona Lloyd-Davies takes us deep into the lives of Congolese women and children. She tells the extraordinary story of Masika Katsuva, a woman who survived repeated rape yet dedicated her life to helping thousands of other women and children who also suffered sexual violence. The narrative also reveals the motivations of some of the perpetrators, many of them soldiers whose duty it should have been to protect the women they have been brutally violating. Shown at the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict.

Amani
Directed by Alliah Fatin | Quebec, Canada, 2021 | Fiction | 17min | In French with English subtitles | 15+
Midway between reality and fantasy, a mysterious narrator tells us the story of Amani, a young boy passionate about dance. Amani’s innocence and joie de vivre open the narrator’s eyes to the humanity he had never really cared about before. But as the night begins to rumble, Amani’s joie de vivre disappears to give way to his pain, which echoes in the silence of the plain.
