Groupe de lecture “Grâce et dénuement” d’Alice Ferney

Tue 28 Jan
Books & Ideas

Once a month, the reading group meets up to discuss a couple of books selected in advance (from classical to contemporary French literature) and discovers other members’ views on them. Meetings are taking place at the Institut français d’Écosse, usually on the last Tuesday of the month.

About the book :

In a suburban setting, a librarian is seized with an almost crazy desire: to introduce gypsy children deprived of schooling to reading. She first comes up against the distrust, mockery and contempt that the Gadgés inspire. But she ends up coaxing the illiterate children, at the same time as she glimpses the destiny of a family over which reigns a widow mother of five sons.
