The play is performed by Les Escogriffes, Edinburgh University’s French Theatre Society. First established in 1969, the society aims to promote Francophone culture through performing arts, including an annual student-led French play.
About the play:
Three plots interweave in this dynamic fresco of 16th century Florence.
Lorenzo de Medici, cousin and favourite of the Duke Alexandre, is publicly perceived as a sodden disgrace. Only Philippe Strozzi, leader of the republicans, knows his true goal: to kill the Duke.
Pierre Strozzi, Philippe’s son, decides to avenge his sister’s insulted honour and start a rebellion of his own, against his father’s advice.
Meanwhile, the Marquise Cibo agrees to become the Duke’s mistress to influence his politics—but her step-brother, the Cardinal Cibo, attempts to blackmail her into supporting his own political ambitions instead.
This event is organized as part of the Mois de la Francophonie 2025
