In this bilingual collaborative workshop with French students from the University of Rouen, participants will be introduced to the genre of travel writing across both sides of the Channel and will be invited to hone their letter writing skills in the eighteenth-century style, in their second language, either French or English. Participants will comment and collaborate on each other’s letters. It will be a unique opportunity for learners of French and English to interact with each other and benefit from an authentic, immersive writing experience with native speakers.
In advance of the workshop, the participants will be supplied with eighteenth-century examples of letters and diary entries by French and British authors (male and female). Further details about the workshop will be communicated to the participants in due course. All participants will be invited to attend the morning session at the Centre for Research Collection (Main Library, University of Edinburgh), a unique opportunity to see 18th-century works. There will also be a guided tour of the Special Collections. This event is curated by Dr Séverine Genieys (University of Edinburgh) and Prof Julien Morel (University of Rouen).
