Professor Rohinton Emmanuel is a Professor in Sustainable Design and Construction at Glasgow Caledonian University, where he also leads the Research Centre for Built Environment Asset Management (BEAM). An architect with a passion for urban design, Professor Emmanuel pioneered the study of urban overheating, with early work in Sri Lanka and ongoing research focused on climate adaptation in cities. His work in Glasgow, particularly on measuring the urban heat island effect, has provided key insights into urban climate resilience. His research interests include environment-sensitive design, the urban commons, and the development of next-generation building sustainability assessment systems. He is exploring natural building materials and innovative processes for improving energy efficiency while balancing heritage preservation in historic architecture.
Anna Heringer became internationally known in 2007 with the construction of the METI School in Rudrapur, Bangladesh, which she designed as her diploma thesis at the University of Art and Design Linz. Since then, Heringer has further developed and disseminated her award-winning architectural approach through buildings in Asia, Africa and Europe as well as through teaching architecture at the University of Liechtenstein, Harvard University, ETH Zurich, among others. Her work has been exhibited worldwide, including the MoMA New York, the Cité de l'architecture Paris, the Museo ICO Madrid, the V&A Museum London and the Venice Biennale. She has received numerous awards for her work. Besides being an architect, activist and educator, she is the CEO of Dipdii Textiles, a women's collaboration for fair fashion and textile art, an author and a mother. Her motto in design practice and life is simply “Form Follows Love”.
