A history of the bagpipes across the centuries, illustrated with pieces played by the speaker Angus Clarke.

Angus Clarke is a retired teacher of French who started his career at Crieff High School in 1979, moving on to Breadalbane Academy in Aberfeldy, Highland Perthshire, in 1994. He retired in 2015.

He has played pipes since his teenage years and has been fortunate enough to have encountered some of the finest pipers in the country and is even more fortunate to count many of them as his friends.

His talk will cover the history of pipes from their earliest known origins, feature examples of current piping in Europe, and will be illustrated by tunes on the Scottish small pipes and the GHB (Great Highland Bagpipe).

His son, brother-in-law and son-in-law are all pipers, a family trait!
